 1.5  Accelerator Keys


The Windows operating system and Empower offer accelerator keys to the more experienced user which can be used in place of the:

·         Mouse.

·         Functions on a menu, or

·         Toolbar buttons.


Table 1 represents the default key mappings for standard Windows installations:

Accept

<Enter>

Accepts the current choice

Clear Field

<Ctrl Y>

Clears the text in a field

Clear Form

<Ctrl W>

Clear the text from all fields in the current form

Close Form

<ESC>

Closes the current form and returns you to the parent form or menu

Copy

<Ctrl C>

Copies the selected text in a field

Cut

<Ctrl X>

Cuts the selected text in a field

Delete

<Ctrl D>

Deletes the active record

First Field

F7

Moves the cursor to the first field in a form

Field Help

F1

Displays context sensitive on-line help for the active field

Go To

<Ctrl G>

Request a command line box to active another menu step

Last Field

F8

Moves the cursor to the last field in a form

Lookup Table

F4

Activates a list of available options

Menu Bar

F10 / <Alt>

Activates the menu bar of the current active form

Message Log

Ctrl M>

Displays the system's message box

New

<Ctrl N>

Clears the data in the current form and inserts a new clean form

Next

<ALT PgDn>

Move the cursor to the next entry

Paste

<Ctrl V>

Inserts the contents of the buffer into the current field

Previous

<ALT PgUp>

Moves the cursor to the preceding entry

Print Form

<Ctrl P>

Prints the current form

Process

F3

Starts or continues a process

Quit

<Ctrl Q>

Exits the current menu step without saving the data

Retrieve

<Ctrl R>

Retrieves any existing data in the database and displays it in the active form

Save

<Ctrl S>

Saves data entered, in the active form, onto the database

Zoom

<Ctrl Z>

Expands the active field to display any hidden text
